The locality
The southern land mass of Greece is called the Peloponnese. This area has three 'fingers' that point south. the middle one of which is referred to as 'The Mani'. Agios Nikolaos is located in this 'finger', about 40km south of Kalamata in the district of Messinia. Neighbouring villages include Stoupa, Lefktro, Kardamyli, Platza, Neochori, Agios Dimitrios and Riglia. The area, like most of Greece is full of history, most notably, just outside Stoupa the area of Kalogria is famous for being the setting where the real life activities of Nikos Kazantakis formed the basis of his book Zorba the Greek. Now the local villages of Stoupa, Kardamyli, and Agios Nikolaos provide superb holiday settings.
